ColdFusion Developer
What about the project:
Our client is a private-equity-owned youth sports company running an in-house ColdFusion application that covers event operations and a marketing CRM. The system is hosted on AWS (two web servers, RDS SQL Server), built and previously maintained by an external vendor whom the client is now transitioning away from. The codebase is CFML and CFScript on ColdFusion 2025, running on Windows/IIS with SQL Server, and includes a set of scheduled tasks. This is a defined, prioritized backlog of maintenance and reactivation work, not a discovery or greenfield project.
You’ll work alongside the product owner/program lead, a data engineer, and an MSP handling server-side infrastructure.
- Client location: US-based. Fully remote work is possible, provided at least 4 hours of overlap with US Eastern business hours.
- Engagement: 20–40 hours/week (to be finalized)
- Start date: end of September into October
What you will do:
- Set up the application in a new dev/test environment (config isolation, datasources, scheduled tasks) and verify it matches production (MSP support available for server setup)
- Implement server-side validations
- Reactivate the application’s own email send engine: scheduled jobs, bounce processing, a compliant one-click unsubscribe endpoint, and header/footer changes
- Rebuild/secure authentication on scheduled-task endpoints
- Fix audience filters and the upload/import screen
- Implement feature flags with written backout plans for every change
- Support ColdFusion version patching in coordination with the MSP
- Work from defined acceptance criteria per item; focus on safe execution and sound judgment on legacy code, not open-ended discovery
What you need:
- Senior-level, hands-on ColdFusion experience, with active CFML/CFScript work within the last two to three years
- Experience with ColdFusion 2025 (or recent ColdFusion versions), SQL Server, and IIS on Windows
- Comfortable reading and safely modifying legacy code with thin/minimal documentation
- Experience with scheduled tasks/jobs in ColdFusion
- Nice to have: domain knowledge in DNS, email platforms/deliverability, DMARC, DKIM
- Upper-Intermediate English level
